The Post Overdose Support Team (POST) follows up with Okaloosa County residents who recently overdosed or received Narcan. They share local resources for treatment and support.
POST was developed by the Healthy Behaviors OCHIP group in collaboration with numerous agencies including community recovery organizations, first responders, treatment providers, local non-profits, healthcare, public health, and faith-based partners. The program was piloted by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department in June and launched countywide in August.
POST includes a community paramedic, law enforcement officer, and behavioral health specialist. They visit the homes of residents who survived an opioid overdose within 24 to 72 hours. They provide education on substance use resources and pathways to recovery.
Team members offer a variety of services including:
- Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
- Faith-based inpatient recovery programs
- Support groups
- 24/7 Outpatient Detox
- Behavioral health
- Harm reduction plans
POST works to empower residents to choose the services that are best for them and their family.
All pathways to recovery are encouraged. This means someone can enroll in MAT and attend a faith-based support group, or any other combination of services.
